Founding Father

KK SmartWays was founded in August 2014 in Kathmandu, Nepal, by Gokarna Khanal, a Nepali businessman and Amit Dinakar Kamat, an Indian engineer, who met while working on a roadway project in Nepal. Their mutual respect, trust and confidence were so strong that the business was initially established based solely in an oral agreement, with no written documents. From 2014-2018, the company operated under the name Saisanket Nepal, before rebranding to KK SmartWays in 2018.

Milestone.

In 2014, KK SmartWays made history in Nepal’s water management sector. We secured a pivotal pilot project from the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation. Our mission? To become the first company in Nepal to implement SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) technology in the water supply system.

This pilot tackled a critical issue: unfair water distribution within pipelines. Some areas received significantly more water pressure than other, creating an inequitable situation for consumers. We believed SCADA could be the solution. This innovative technology would allow us to actively monitor water flow throughout the network and regulate valves or pumps to ensure balanced pressure across different areas.

The success of the pilot project was a major breakthrough. KK SmartWays not only pioneered the use of SCADA in Nepal’s water sector, but we also paved the way for more equitable water distribution system, ensuring everyone received their fair share of this vital resource.
